This morning was a definite early bird start as we are in a little bit of a heat wave it seems. The humidity makes these ninety degree temperatures feel more like temperatures well over one hundred. It is amazing to ride all day soaking wet from top to bottom, well maybe amazing is not the correct word.

A majority of the ride today was on country roads and through fields and fields of crops. I was able to see many white-tailed deer today and I enjoyed the rolling terrain.

We also found markers today for the United States Bicycle Route 1 and stayed on that route after Route 76 took a left to head west twenty miles into the ride this morning. Being north of the TransAmerica Trail makes me feel as if I have made some real progress on this route.

Being in the woods today was very nice as far as having shade most of the ride. It also provided some peaceful riding. This part of the country is very beautiful and it has been just as pleasant to ride through as I remembered.

Arriving into Fredericksburg, I was looking for somewhere unique to have a good breakfast. I found just the place. The Battlefield Restaurant provided just the quirkiness I was looking for and I even brushed up on my Civil War history.

Fredericksburg was not the larger town I had thought it to be for some reason. I just imagined it in my mind’s eye to be more urban. The historic buildings were beautiful and there were some nice wall art to view along the route.

Once north of Fredericksburg, my mission was complete as far as making tomorrow’s ride a little shorter due to us camping at Fort Belvoir, which will require some extra time at the gate to get Folker access. We should now have plenty of time for all of the extracurriculars tomorrow! Now let’s enjoy some frozen coffee, shall we?
