Day 2. Cycle Oregon – Elgin to Enterprise.

Today would be a moving day as we would be making our way to Enterprise for the next few nights. I woke up and had my packed bag handed off to the baggage detail before they fully knew where the truck transporting our bags would be stationed. Guess they felt sorry for me as they told me to just leave it with them and they would handle it. It is so nice these young high school kids take the time to come out and support us.

This morning started off with a nice climb lasting for about nine miles before we bombed down for the next four miles. The remainder of the day involved a slight climb until reaching the gravel portion where the terrain would be more rolling. Hells Canyon Oregon Scenic Byway was luckily on the menu and I was there to enjoy every minute of it while passing through.

I used the first climb to get caught up on the Lael Rides Around The World podcast. She is absolutely an inspiration as she is only a couple days from finishing riding 18,000 miles around the world, which will put her completing this epic ride in just over 108 days. Listening to her and Rue really gives me hope in humanity.

Beautiful Morning.

The scenery today was absolutely breathtaking. Riding along side the Minam and Wallowa Rivers really is something special. Once in Wallowa, I really enjoyed the snack break as I talked to a local Army veteran that had retired in 1994 and another kind gentleman that explained some of the local history.

I did ask the gentleman in Wallowa about the nearby small town of Troy that my brother-in-law grew up in back in the day. Troy is an excellent place for some fishing and hunting adventures according to this gentleman. The population is well under 100 and that is just fantastic. The town produces some top notch humans for sure and that is a fact.

After making it to Lostine, I took the gravel option and it did not disappoint in the slightest. The rolling terrain offered some grand views that had me stopping often to just take it all in as best as I could before I descended into Enterprise.

Today’s ride was a great mixture as I was able to enjoy beautiful roads and glorious gravel. These Cycle Oregon rides seem to never disappoint as far as offering amazing scenery while giving us challenging terrain to negotiate. Rumor is we may have some rain tomorrow, good thing I brought some rain gear along with a positive attitude!
